May is the only bike month??

Every month is "Bike Month" at Saveagallon.org!
That being said there is a lot of fun happening this month.

Loopalooza
Bike Loopalooza! May 16th

Another great event by Davis Bicycles! the first annual "Bike Loopalooza" will be held on May 16.

The DB! School Committee is sponsoring its first annual family event on the Davis Bike Loop. Many Davisites still don't know the best way to bike across town via the Bike Loop and other paths. This event aims to acquaint more people with our first-rate bike facilities. Bike Loopalooza will take place Sunday, May 16, from 10 AM to 2 PM, the day before the Davis-Santa Rosa stage of the Amgen Tour of California.

Up to 11 stations will be spaced along the main loop, offering information about using Davis bike paths to get to school and other major Davis destinations. Each station will have its own specialty focusing on elementary school riders, including bike check, helmet check, skills course, face painting, tattoos (soluble, of course!), bird watching, tree identification, and more. A suggested donation of $1-$5 per participant (parents and kids) will help defray the cost of putting on this event.

The Saveagallon.org crew will be at station 5. Stop by say hi and get a free SAG tattoo featuring Stëve our new mascot.

Bikes Belong

The Pledge

Peopleforbikes.org is looking to gather one million names to encourage and support safer biking in the US.

Let our voices be heard.

Every six years, the federal government allocates billions of dollars to expand and improve our country’s transportation infrastructure. Peopleforbikes.org will use our powerful, united voice to urge U.S Senators and Congressmen to make new, cost-effective investments in bicycling facilities and programs that will benefit us now and well into the future.

Together we can make bicycling better.

Imagine a place where one bike lane leads to the next. Where trails, bridges and underpasses lead safely to exactly where you want to go. And regardless of your bicycling experience and fitness, you can pedal smoothly across the street, across town, or even across the country. We believe this can be a reality and that, by uniting, we can make our world a better place to ride.

Go now, it's easier than logging miles here... http://www.peopleforbikes.org

Top User Chart Updated

Site Update

We recently received some great feedback (thanks Barbara!!) about our "Top User Chart" being less than motivational. Originally, we lumped all the alternative transportation types together to find the top dog. However, what if you skateboard? You can't compete with the carpoolers. Bummer right??
Not anymore, now you can select your favorite Alternative Transportation Type and see how you measure up.

Give it a try: Top User Chart NEW

Do you have another idea, suggestion, complaint??
Don't be shy with it: info@saveagallon.org

Thanks!

Tour de Cluck [May 22nd]

My two favorite things Bikes and Chickens.

The Davis Farms to School Connection is sponsoring the first (hopefully annual) Chicken Coop Crawl on May 22nd. Mark your calendars now!
What could be better than biking around Davis, checking out Chicken Coops and helping to support local food in a healthy school environment??

The coops featured on the 2010 “Tour de Cluck” will be presented as a self-guided tour in neighborhood clusters (coop loops!) with most having easy access to the Davis Bicycle Loop. In addition to a fine variety of coop styles and chicken breeds, each coop loop will feature backyard poultry expert information for those interested in taking the poultry plunge.

I've submitted my coop, and hope to be included in this year's tour!

Wish me luck!

Tim
